ADR-001 — Adopt Orvenath as the parent brand

Context#

A parent brand was required that could plausibly sit above unrelated businesses — software, products, potentially unrelated sectors — without implying an industry. Requirements: .com available, and no existing web presence anywhere under the name.

110 candidate names were checked across three construction patterns:

PatternCheckedAvailable
Two-word compounds (BlackRock style)400
Short soft coinages (Google style)400
Longer invented forms301

Additional invented candidates in the Orvenath family produced a higher availability rate.

The constraint is structural, not incidental: short, easy, pronounceable names were exhausted between 2000 and 2012. The trade-off is easy or available, not both.

Decision#

Adopt Orvenath. Register orvenath.com and orvenath.in only — not a defensive TLD portfolio.

Rejected: a .in domain hack for the parent brand, on the grounds that domain hacks do not survive speech (spoken aloud, listeners type the .com) and .in implies a domestic-only operation.

Consequences#

  • Four syllables, longer than ideal, but phonetically unambiguous — no silent letters, no spelling ambiguity
  • Zero prior web presence means the search footprint must be built from nothing
  • Clean trademark position when filing becomes justified
  • All social handles were available except Instagram; a variant was used

Notes#

Rejected alternatives with the same properties, retained in case of a future rename: Bramvold, Halvanth, Orbanth, Fenwath, Ojasvara.
